One of the biggest drug busts in southwest North Dakota history went down Thursday in Stark County. The South Sakakawea Narcotics Task Force, which includes the Stark County Sheriff`s Office, Dickinson Police and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, wrapped up a 6 month undercover investigation of suspected drug dealers.
12 people were arrested and law enforcement has located two other suspects who are staying in a Jamestown rehab facility, who will be arrested once they finish treatment.
Authorities are also looking for two more suspects, who are expected to turn themselves in next week.
Suspected drug dealers caught up in a Stark County law enforcement drag net Thursday are in big trouble. At a press conference Friday, officials released the names of 10 people arrested in Dickinson, 1 in Belfield and another in South Heart.
Those accused of dealing drugs face the harshest penalties. Class A felonies carry a maximum penalty of 20 years behind bars and/or a $10,000 fine. Suspects falling into this category include:
Patricia Kuntz: Two counts, delivery of a controlled substance (prescription drugs)
Phillip Bennett: Two counts, delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
Jeanifer Meyer: One count, delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
Douglas Johnson: One count, delivery of a controlled substance (prescription drugs)
Jami Markham: One count, delivery of a controlled substance (ecstasy)
Jarad Dillon: One count, delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
Terry Crooks: One count, delivery of a controlled substance (prescription drugs)
Others arrested face lesser penalties. Class C felonies carry a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine. Those falling into this category include:
Kelly Knowles: One count, possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription.
Nicole Hunke: Possession of paraphernalia (methamphetamine)
Derek Campbell: Possession of Class III narcotic (steroids)
Joshua Mackey: Possession of drug paraphernalia (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia (marijuana).
Ashley Dutke: Listed as facing two counts of a Class C Felony, delivery of a controlled substance (prescription drugs)
The suspects appeared before a judge at the Stark County Courthouse Friday. Several were released on bond. Some were given a discounted bond because they have children at home.
The Stark County State`s Attorney said he thinks cases against these individuals will be a slam dunk because there are audio and video recordings. |
